As this Transport Canada letter shows, Vard Marine (VARD) is assisting Transport Canada in work aimed at reducing the impacts of underwater noise created by depth-finders and fish-finders on Southern Resident Killer Whales and other marine life. VARD is firstly aiming to understand their contribution to the underwater soundscape of the Salish Sea area to inform recommendations on reducing their impact.
Underwater noise is a growing problem for marine life worldwide. Canada is one of the leading countries exploring measures which can mitigate its effects.
A survey has been developed to help guide this work and the boating public is invited to participate. The link to the survey is here.
Privacy is taken very seriously, and no respondent will be tracked through the data or other responses, unless they agree to a follow-up by providing their email address in the last question in the survey.
