Description: Tired of that stinky boat smell? Don’t love leaving your paycheck at the gas dock? Concerned about our future? Well then, this is the talk for you! Douglas’ 2011 Nissan Leaf showed him just how wonderful EV’s are, and so in 2020 they embarked on converting their 28′ sailboat Firefly to electric. Having raced and cruised Firefly extensively since the upgrade, Douglas would like to share with you what he’s learned in the process. Douglas will cover his specific conversion and why he made the choices he did, as well as the maths for your conversion. He will also discuss the realities of not having infinite range, i.e. range anxiety.
About the Speaker: Douglas has been in, on, or under the water his whole life and loves the life aquatic. He grew up in the tropics, followed a beautiful Canadian to the Arctic, and can now often be seen shivering on the docks. Douglas is a dad to a lovely teenager, as well as being the Club’s Fleet Captain Dinghy and the Club’s PHRF-BC handicapper.
