TWO VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES OPEN

The Club is in need of two people to step into important coordinator-level positions, each involving an opportunity for someone take the job and make it their own. Each of these jobs offers a chance to put in your required volunteer hours in ways other than showing up to a work party and doing what someone else has organized for you. If you are someone who likes to organize yourself and do a job on your own time and mostly from the privacy of your own home, then please step forward to help. If these jobs remain unfilled, it impacts the running of our whole organization and puts extra pressure on fellow volunteers to fill the holes.

Sailing School Coordinator

Come join our team in the Junior Program as the Sailing School Coordinator. A commitment of just 2 hours a week throughout the 8 weeks of the summer would not only just about satisfy your membership requirement for volunteering, but it would also get you involved in the most fun group here! Plus! we eat a lot of cookies!

To learn more, contact Fleet Capt. Dinghy Douglas at dinghy@saltspringsailing.ca or phone using number in yearbook.

Volunteer Coordinator

This is a significant volunteer position which has been open for a while.  Someone can configure this key support role in their own way and do the job on their own schedule. It can be a very satisfying way to make a real difference in the Sailing Club, with perhaps the most rewarding part being the opportunity to work with and get to know fellow Club members and the Board.

Providing the main support for volunteer culture in the Club, the position involves overseeing and encouraging Club volunteerism by keeping members aware of all volunteer opportunities and by updating the volunteer interests section of the membership database.  It will include advertising and perhaps actively recruiting for key non-Board volunteer positions, liaising wth committee heads and the Board to advertise varying volunteer needs, reviewing job descriptions, and helping members to find their volunteering niche in the Club.  It may eventually evolve into being the head of a new committee.  A rough idea of what the job has involved in the past can be found here, although the job description needs updating: https://www.saltspringsailing.ca/volunteers/job_desc/volunteer_coord.pdf.

Former Volunteer Coordinators Wendy Vine (communications@saltspringsailing.ca) and John Tulip (rs-chair@saltspringsailing.ca) are open to discussing with interested members what the job involves. If you are interested, please contact Past Commodore Chris Cheeseman, past_commodore@saltspringsailing.ca
