May 23 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Title: Planning and Preparing for a Local Cruise
Speakers: Larisa Fry & Randall Walford
About the Talk: This course is designed for those new to cruising and those who may just want to renew their skills. Following a weekday evening theory session (with handouts and in-session hands-on exercises), participants will be ready to do the planned cruise a week later. Participants will be required to bring their copy of a TBA particular paper chart, the reference to southern Gulf Islands tide and currents book and Murray’s tables, a notebook, pencil, and eraser.
Dates: Thursday May 23 (note date change) followed by a cruise on June 7-9 to Wallace Island and Montague Harbour
Venue: SISC Clubhouse 7:00-9:00 PM
About the Speakers:
Larisa Fry has race experience on Sharks, J- 24 and 35, and her own C & C 35 MK II. She competed in world events in both J and Shark class boats and was Ontario South Shore Champion. She has been race chair, and PHRF measurer for Dalhousie Yacht Club (forgive her, she did not choose to be from Ontario). When asked what is so great about boats? Her simple reply is “boats cannot tell age or sex- they level the playing field.”
Randall Walford’s early sailing was on Georgian Bay. Following a long hiatus and a move west, he cruises on a sloop he rebuilt while landlocked. He enjoys discovering new destinations, meeting fellow sailors, and adding to his skills and knowledge in local waters.
