April 28 Safety Day and Swap Meet Details

by Wendy Vine on April 13, 2018

April 28th will be a busy day at the Club, one designed to help members get ready for the approaching season of safe and enjoyable boating. Not only will our popular Marine Swap Meet return to the lower roundabout, but our annual Safety Day will offer a program of safety demonstrations, free safety inspections and opportunities to check off some of those spring commissioning tasks.

Marine Swap Meet

Information for Sellers

How many treasures do you have to sell? Only a few items? You can donate those items to the Juniors’ table for their fundraising. Lots of items? Reserve your full or half table by Thursday, April 26th (no charge – first come, first served). To reserve, call ASAP Swap Meet coordinators Barry MacDonald or Trevor Bishop (phone numbers in yearbook).

Sellers, please bring your marine treasures to the lower roundabout (including items to be donated to the Juniors’ table).  Please bring plastic or newspaper to cover your table, take down your table at the finish, and remove any unsold items. Profits from the sale of refreshments will benefit the Junior Sailing Program.

Swap Meet Schedule:

0830 — Set-up by SISC members with items to sell

0900-1130 — Open shopping for Club members and public

1200 — All sold and unsold items must be removed

Safety Day Activities

With a surge of volunteers at the last-minute call, we are able to offer a variety of activities for this year’s Safety Day.  To encourage participation, all activities will be conducted on our docks, including coffee.  Below are links to the registration form for those wishing to sign up for private inspections and to the Safe Boating Guide produced by Transport Canada.  Please take a moment to review the safety equipment which you must have on board your boat at all times.

The activities plan for Safety Day is as follows:

  • Pleasure Craft Safety Checks by RCMSAR team (free)
  • Underwater Inspections by diver Chris West ($25 fee, rebated for any arranged work)
  • Fire suppression and Pump demonstration by Club Safety Officer Derek Barrio
  • LifeRing throwing demonstration and practice by RCMSAR
  • AED demonstration by SISC member Dr. David Butcher
  • Flares disposal by RCMSAR
  • Oil Containment demonstration by Brahm Martz and Richard Ballantyne
